Addressing the need to service 5,300 acres of unsewered area, Pease designed seven miles of sewer line along the I-85 corridor to support future development in Rowan County and Salisbury, North Carolina. This project involved a partnership between the county and city and close collaboration with the project owner, Salisbury-Rowan Utilities.
Of key significance to this project was the county and city’s willingness to adopt ordinances to help preserve and protect the existing watershed basin and stream corridor as future development occurs.
In order to complete this project within a three-year time frame, the following were completed simultaneously: engineering and environmental studies, survey and pipeline design, obtaining construction permits from four state and federal agencies, and construction of over seven miles of 12-inch- to 21-inch-diameter gravity sewer line.
An excellent partnership between the SRU staff and project team of environmental, surveying and engineering consultants coupled with superior team leadership—that is what is making this project thrive.
