Town Creek/Grant Creek Wastewater Treatment

Salisbury-Rowan Utilities

Helping Salisbury-Rowan Utilities meet the demands of their aging wastewater treatment systems, Pease designed upgrades to the Grant Creek and Town Creek wastewater treatment plants.

SRU was faced with the following challenges:
• Shrinking revenues due to a declining industrial user base
• Two aging wastewater treatment plants requiring significant improvements for efficient operation and regulatory compliance

The firm recommended an $8-million program of improvements as part one of three phases that would address SRU's wastewater needs.

The 7.5 MGD Grant Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant improvements consist of expanding and upgrading the sludge management system; installing two new 87-ft-diameter concrete digesters, aeration system and blowers; additional pumping and piping modifications.

The 5.0 MGD Town Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant improvements consist of replacing the outdated plate-and-frame sludge press with a new 2.2-meter belt filter press, demolishing aged concrete aprons around the existing aeration basins and relining them with concrete floors and side slopes, replacing existing clarification equipment, and yard piping improvements.

Pease successfully and efficiently delivered design, bidding and construction services requirements for Phase I facilities on time and within budget.
