The Environment Health and Safety (EHS) Building incorporates significant LEED design criteria, making this facility environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy. It is the most sustainable of seven buildings included in the $11-million/70,000 GSF campus services master plan developed by Pease.
The EHS building is the first on campus to incorporate controlled daylighting. Rooftop “monitors” harvest daylight while excluding glare and unwanted heat gain. Light sensors ensure that electric lights only turn on when required, thus reducing electricity bills and the need for cooling. Energy efficient mechanical and roofing systems add to the sustainability of the building.
The $4.3-million/22,577 SF, two-story facility houses laboratories, offices, conference rooms, storage, mechanical rooms and a loading dock covered by an outdoor patio. Also included is a 2,111 SF pre-engineered storage/laboratory building, with walk-in fume hoods, used for storage and material analysis.
