The renovation of the 60-year-old Justice Building in Raleigh was a complex, comprehensive undertaking. The 65,000 SF facility houses the North Carolina Supreme Court, associated law library and Administrative Office of the Courts
This historic landmark required a complete office reconfiguration and building systems replacement. Sensitivity to the preservation of the building exterior, courtroom and main lobby features was paramount. Pease collaborated with all user groups in developing new programming and space planning, optimizing space utilization, adjacencies, functionality and energy conservation. High performance, thermal glazed windows; additional building insulation; and DDC-controlled, 100% OA air handlers and fan powered units greatly increased energy efficiency, indoor air quality and comfort.
In addition to new HVAC systems, Pease designed high efficiency lighting, power distribution, telecommunications, fire protection, life safety, elevator and security systems. All building systems were upgraded to comply with the latest NC State Building Code.
This building renovation met special preservation requirements mandated by the State and National Historic Registers.
