Health Science Building opens at Western Piedmont Community College

The opening of the new Health Science Building at Western Piedmont Community College, in Morganton, North Carolina, brings a much-needed, state-of-the art facility to help meet the demands of the rapidly growing medical profession in the Burke County area.

The new 17,000 SF, two-story facility houses new labs, classrooms and offices for the nursing, medical technology and medical assisting programs, replacing older spaces that, for some, date back 40 years.

Key features of the building include a tiered classroom designed for nursing, a student commons area filled with abundant natural light and seating, and a high-tech Medical Laboratory Technology classroom that serves the only program of its kind between Asheville and Charlotte.

According to Pease Associates’ architect Stuart Wallace, “The Health Science Building successfully addresses a critical need for Western Piedmont’s expanding Allied Health and Science programs. It completes the tight site that was available, complementing the adjacent 1960s campus buildings with its use of brick and precast concrete”.
